Thinking about the Disciplines

Please add a comment to this post, reflecting on the first morning's speakers and responding to the following:
  1. What additional questions might you have for the speakers?
  2. What strikes you as most thought-provoking, stimulating, strange, funny, or otherwise interesting about what you've heard?
  3. What would you like to know more about?

  1. 1. hmm lots but they'll probably be answered in good time.
    2. I found the linguistic presentation the most interesting because I know the least about that subject.
    3. everything! and job opportunities in English
    4. I've done some creative writing for contests and for fun. I've read books and analyzed them in English class... :)

    3. Hmmmm, probably everything there is to know about English(that I can learn in three weeks though)

    4. Well...I've taken high school English. I write for a newspaper, and help with a community blog.

    2. I enjoyed listening about the philosophy behind rhetoric.
    3. I would like to know more about the abovementioned field of study.
    4. I do not have much formal experience, but i have dabbled in creative writing.

    2. Thoughts related to linguistics and what principles of translation.

    3. Linguistics, classic literature and what precisely makes us respect authors of classics?, etc.

    4. I've taken the first Freshmen Composition college CLEP test, also studied British literature for years...my Dad's an English professor at Mayville State, so it's kind of been driven into me since infancy. =) I also participate in a campus-community literature discussion group...

  6. 1. As of right now, I don't have any questions. I'm sure that will change, though, as we advance in our studies.
    2. I was captivated by the philosophy behind rhetoric, as well as the composition excerpt.
    3. The creative writing process and how it develops would be an extremely intriguing subject to pursue.
    4. I have written for local newspapers in the past, as well as several essays, papers- including research, entertain, inform, and persuade. I have also written a vast quantity of short stories, poems, and songs. My current project is a novel.

    2. The different dialects of English.
    3. I would like to learn more about the English grammar.
    4. Umm... well, our English teachers did teach us a lot about literary criticism...

    2. The linguistics, because I didn't know much about linguistics...until today that is.
    3. I want to learn more about creative writing and how I can improve my own creative writing.
    4. I published a poem and now I am working on a novel.
